At a glance
A course that helps students build strong reading, writing, speaking and listening skills for college, work and everyday life. Students learn how to understand different texts, communicate clearly, and use literacy skills across their other subjects.
Enrolment requirement: To enrol in Bridging Literacy, students need evidence that they have not yet achieved the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) Level 3. This can include (for example) a recommendation from their high school.
This course is a good choice for students who:
- want extra support to strengthen reading and writing skills for other subjects
- want to feel more confident with research, note taking and writing tasks
- want practical literacy skills for life outside school (forms, emails, job applications)
About this course
Bridging Literacy is designed to support students to reach the benchmark of ACSF Level 3. Students work with texts linked to their other subjects and everyday life, and build skills in comprehension, writing, research and communication. Assessment usually includes responding tasks (understanding and analysing texts) and creating tasks (writing and speaking for different purposes).
