2027 Yr 10 SMART Program Parent & Carers Information Session

The SMART Program is a selective 3-year program for students who show strong interest and ability in Science, Mathematics and related technologies.
It is for students who are ready to challenge themselves, build strong study habits, and prepare for senior secondary study.
How the program works
Year 10
In the first year, students join the Year 10 SMART Program and work towards their Year 10 Certificate.
Students study the Year 10 curriculum. Students will complete most classes together with other Year 10 students.
Across the year, students study these main subjects:
- Science
- Mathematics
- English
- History
- Physical Education
Students also take part in:
- Projects
- Pastoral Care
In Year 10, students are supported by:
- a Pastoral Care teacher
- a Year 10 Coordinator
Years 11 and 12
In the second and third years, students move into Year 11 and 12 at Gungahlin College.
They study courses from the ACT BSSS curriculum and work towards their Senior Secondary Certificate. Some students may also work towards a Tertiary Entrance Statement.
Students attend classes with other Year 11 and 12 students who have chosen the same courses.
In these years, students are also part of a House and are supported by a House Coordinator.
Who is the program for?
The SMART Program is for students who:
- enjoy Science, Mathematics and related technologies
- do well in these areas
- are ready for extra challenge
- want to build strong skills for Years 11 and 12
