About this course
Hospitality explores the fast-changing world of food and service. Students learn practical skills in preparing, storing and handling food safely, and they build skills in customer service, communication and working under time pressure. Students also explore topics such as sustainability, legal requirements, and how technology (including social media) is used in hospitality. Assessment usually includes practical tasks and projects, supported by planning and reflection.
VET (V)
- Students studying Hospitality have the opportunity to work towards a Certificate II in Hospitality VET qualification or a Statement of Attainment from the Tourism, Travel and Hospitality (SIT) Training Package.
- What this means: VET can help students have their practical skills recognised towards a nationally recognised certificate.

Units in this course
Students complete 2 units for a Minor or 4 units for a Major.
Hospitality Essentials
This unit builds core skills in food and hospitality, including safe food practices and hygiene.
Students will:
- prepare, present and serve food and beverages using safe and hygienic practices
- explore workplace safety rules and basic legal responsibilities in hospitality
Hospitality Operations
This unit focuses on running hospitality tasks efficiently, including adapting recipes and improving work practices.
Students will:
- plan, organise, prepare and serve a range of hospitality products
- work collaboratively and use communication skills in practical hospitality situations
Hospitality Industry
This unit explores current trends and issues in hospitality, including customer service and meeting industry standards.
Students will:
- explore workplace culture, customer needs, and expectations in different hospitality settings
- plan and produce food and beverage products that reflect current market trends
Hospitality Management
This unit introduces management skills such as leadership, planning, and improving business operations.
Students will:
- explore how hospitality businesses make decisions and manage day-to-day operations
- build leadership, teamwork and communication skills through practical tasks
