Infrastructure upgrades at Gungahlin College

Infrastructure upgrades at Gungahlin College

In the 2023/24 budget, the ACT Government announced it is investing more than $800 million on new and upgraded public schools to meet the needs of our growing city. Infrastructure upgrades to Gungahlin College are being funded as part of this budget.

These upgrades will help ease accommodation pressures within the College and projected college enrolment needs of the growing Gungahlin population.

The Project

Project update: March 2024

On Tuesday 19 March 2024 we received the unfortunate news that Project Coordination – the building company delivering the expansion works at Gungahlin College – has gone into voluntary administration.

While some works in the program were completed – such as eight additional learning spaces in Relocatable Learning Units – some works are unfinished, including the science lab upgrades, building extensions and final certification of the new cafĂ©.

The Education Directorate is looking into making alternative arrangements for the project to be completed as soon as practical.

The delivery of teaching and learning has not been impacted by this issue and classes are continuing as usual at the College.

Progress updates and timelines for the completion of the works will be shared when available.

If you have any questions or wish to discuss any concerns, please email the Directorate on ACT.Education@act.gov.au.

Project update: October 2023

The following work is being undertaken at the college:

  • increasing the utilisation of specialist science spaces, including by enclosing balcony space
  • installation of eight additional learning spaces through the provision of four Relocatable Learning Units
  • internal renovations within the College
  • Restoration of the existing Gungahlin College oval, and
  • additional options to improve space usage in the Gungahlin Library.
