About this course
Design & Graphics focuses on the creative process and technical skills used in graphic design. Students plan, design and produce visual communication products such as logos, posters, branding, campaigns and digital content. Assessment usually includes design process work (planning and documentation) and finished design solutions.

Units in this course
Students complete 2 units for a Minor or 4 units for a Major.
Design Applications
This unit is about learning design principles and creating graphic solutions to design problems.
Students will:
- explore techniques (including sketching and digital design) to develop ideas
- create a finished design product for a specific purpose using a clear design process
Design for a Client Brief
This unit is about responding to a client brief and creating a design that meets a need.
Students will:
- research a target audience and constraints such as time, budget and ethics
- develop concepts and produce design solutions that meet the brief
Visual Communication
This unit is about using graphic design to inform, inspire or persuade an audience.
Students will:
- create a visual campaign in response to a brief
- use layout, colour, typography and composition to communicate ideas clearly
Design for Screen & Media
This unit is about designing for digital platforms such as social media, mobile and online publishing.
Students will:
- design for different platforms and learn how formats and files work in digital publishing
- prepare and export designs for different uses, such as web, video and print
